Q: My ex doesn’t return the clothes and things that I send over to her house! I have spoken with her several times and she promises to return them but never does. What should I do?

A: I hear your frustration! When you purchase items for your child and then the are not available for them to use at your home that must feel unfair, especially when you have already tried to discuss your concerns.

Some of my clients have a fixed list of items that go back and forth with the child that is kept with the suitcase. It is a simple solution but works well because the child, depending on their age, can help pack their own bag and find their missing items.

Another solution that some families choose to have two sets of everything. This is not cost effective, but it can really dial down the tension between coparents. The child needs to be the center of all co-parenting choices and you might need to let go some missing items in favour of keeping a peaceful co-parenting relationship.
